I do not give up.

I am going to find the fucking tiny piece of ground that's mine and defend it.

I hate Best Buy. I can't understand how they get their associates to behave that way. Even if they're paid on commission, I seriously wouldn't have thought that being an annoying dork was the best way to get sales. The only way I can see what they do being rational from their perspective is if Best Buy has some sort of a monitoring device on their associates that tells management when they aren't harassing the customers enough. And perhaps a collar to shock the associates.

The other stores seemed as bad at first, but something clicked. I don't know, maybe it'll unclick. Lately, I keep thinking things are one way and then realizing a few minutes later that that made no sense. Still, right now, Life is good.

Sure. I don't know how well my interests will match yours, either, but you have to be pretty damn annoying before I'll actively choose not to talk with you. This coming week isn't good, though—I'll be home for Christmas and not online much. But after that, I'm TephX. I haven't been very good about logging onto AIM lately, but I'll try to do that more.

The Waterfront one. Do they actually pay on commission? I thought that was pretty unlikely, though now that I think of it, they do stress their names...

Really? I love Best Buy. As much as you know I hate dealing with the demos at all, I still sometimes go there just to shop around with no particular aim. I don't think I've been since they shifted their marketing paradigm (I think that's only select stores anyway; I don't have that WSJ or that Business week anymore though so I'm not sure) though, so that might be it.

I have a similar desire to own real estate, but no current specific steps toward that end, so probably less so. One day...

I don't remember it ever being this way at the Crossgates Best Buy. But, well, you know how in some stores, the clerks will approach you and ask you if you need help? I've always hated this behavior; originally because of social phobia, now because of the remnants of that and because it's just annoying—if I want help, I'll ask for it. Well, Best Buy has become that times a megastore. Every five minutes a clerk would walk up to me and ask if I needed help, and annoyingly give his name. It was so irritating that by the end, I just totally ignored one of them, not even saying “no thanks”.

Heh, it was meant to be metaphorical, although my desire to own real estate is so strong that I've seriously considered buying a piece of land out in the middle of nowhere for no reason other than to own land (and probably would have done it if my finances were in a bit better shape).

On commerce

Yeah, that's definitely not universal. I view the "may I help you?" as a social pleasantry really, like "How are you?" Few people want to know how the person is (Before it starts, I guess everybody who's gonna deny it can be an exception if it helps their pride), it's just convention. While I do think the BB employees want to help, I still treat it the same. That said, I've spent a lot of time in Best Buys, but never been mayIhelpyoued more than once in the store (that I recall). Does the greeter bother you as well?
